The question always comes up — why horchata? The answer is my abuela. This is the story of where MaFuego Clásica came from.
The question always comes up. Why horchata? Out of everything I could have built, why make an energy drink around horchata?
The answer is my abuela.
She was the original energy. Up before anyone else, already in the kitchen, already working. Her horchata wasn't something she made — it was something she gave. Rice soaking the night before, cinnamon, a little vanilla, her hands doing what they'd done a thousand times. By the time the rest of us were rubbing our eyes, there was a cold glass on the counter waiting.
That's what I grew up with. That's her in a bottle.
By the time I was 5 or 6, before the sun came up, I was already being sent to the stables in the dark. Animals waiting, work to do, and me barely awake. I'd grab my father's coffee cup to help boost my spirits and get moving. And I always noticed what he did — he'd pour a little horchata in to make it taste a little better.
I will never forget that combination.
As I got older, my mind kept taking me back to those mornings. The dark stables. My father's cup. That taste. And then one day it just hit me — get the caffeine from the coffee, blend it with the horchata. Órale. That was it. The dream began that day.
In the evenings I'd work on the flavor until it was just right. Abuela's recipe, with my dad's coffee kick. It took time. But when it finally came together, I knew exactly what it was.
That's my love in a bottle. One for me, and one for you — my family.
